Yoga for Equanimity
A Mini Retreat
2pm-4pm on Saturday 19th September 2020
This is a mini retreat to nurture equanimity where you’ll receive full guidance and interaction from an experienced, kind and highly qualified Yoga teacher.
One dictionary definition of equanimity is “Calmness and composure, especially in a difficult situation”.
It’s a wonderful state to be in. We often wish we could live in this place of calm acceptance of life’s ups and downs more often.
Equanimity is a quality. A quality of balance and impartiality of mind. It's a non reactive, spaciousness of mind which can hold all things. Equanimity and indifference are often confused as the same thing, but they're actually very different. Indifference is a pulling back, non caring or withdrawal from experience. While in equanimity there's an openness to all experience, that allows for wise discernment and appropriate responses to huge variety of life’s situation.
The practice of Yoga is one way to lay the foundation encouraging this state of being to settle more often and stay longer within us.
“Equanimity is calamity's medicine” Publilius Syrus
Our Yoga for Equanimity retreat will include
2 lovingly crafted Yoga sequences Starting with standing and balancing poses, we’ll be working with the strength, stability and focus work needed to maintain balance, not only of the body but also the mind and spirit. Expect to be playful at times as we experiment with imperfection, patience and losing our balance a bit!
Our second sequence will be Yin. That means our poses will be long held, deep stretches focusing on lengthening the tougher, deeper connective tissues around the hips, legs and lower back. This is a very popular form of Yoga at the moment and is a wonderful way to develop deep flexibility and release tension.
Guidance on meditation and a simple meditation on equanimity.
Practical guided journaling to help you find equanimity in everyday life. Learn more about yourself. What’s working well? What could you release?
A wonderful poem or two. Often the most popular part of my offerings. I’m a big poetry fan, so all my retreats include short, easy to digest poems relevant to our theme.
A lot of love and even some moments of lighthearted fun!
A modern definition of equanimity is “Cool”.
This refers to one whose mind remains stable & calm in all situations - Allan Lokos
Testimonial from our Ease and Space, June 2020 mini retreat:
“I just wanted to write to say thank you for such a beautiful retreat on Friday. It was amazing, and I loved every minute of it. What I especially enjoy with your retreats is the seamless change of pace - from challenging poses to meditation to more restorative poses, it all flows so perfectly and it is so wonderful to head into the weekend in such a relaxed way.” Sue Gray, Singapore.
Our 2 hour home retreat is for all levels of yogini and yogi, this means beginners to the more advanced are all warmly welcomed. You will be well looked after and offered simple to more challenging possibilities in poses to suit your body and energy levels.

”Yet another wonderful mini-retreat with Sarah! My teenage daughter and I found this to be the perfect antidote to jet lag - stretching, opening up, getting the flow and circulation going, peppered with perfectly timed, more restful periods and fascinating insight into Goddess Kali. My daughter in particular loved the “walk with her future self”! I loved the short guided focus at the end, and we both agreed the whole retreat was over too quickly!” - Nikki Newman, UK
